Facebook Users Help Philadelphia Federal Credit Union Donate $5,000 to Local Nonprofits

Jan 12, 2018

--1,000 social media users voted to help the credit union decide how to support four local organizations--

Philadelphia, PA, January 10, 2018  – Philadelphia Federal Credit Union (PFCU) kicked off a social media giving campaign at the end of 2017 asking Facebook users to determine how the credit union would distribute a  $5,000 donation among four local nonprofit organizations, and the votes are in:

PFCU will donate $3,320 to Lutheran Settlement House (664 votes), $410 to Gaudenzia’s House of Passage (82 votes), $835 to SpArc Services (167 votes), and $435 to Congreso (87 votes).

To cast their vote, social media users engaged with a post on PFCU’s Facebook page and selected the emoji that corresponded with the charity they wanted PFCU to support. Each “vote” counted as $5 that PFCU would donate to that organization. The giving campaign launched on Giving Tuesday and ended on Dec. 30, 2017, when it reached 1,000 votes – or $5,000.

In addition to the support offered by this campaign, Philadelphia Federal Credit Union works with the nonprofits throughout the year by providing financial seminars and empowering individuals to take control of their personal finances to achieve independence.

“This giving campaign underscores our work with these organizations throughout the year,” said Erin Ellis, Accredited Financial Counselor at PFCU, who leads the financial seminars at the nonprofits year-round. “So many organizations are providing such valuable services to the people of Philadelphia, it’s difficult to choose which of these deserving organizations to support. We’re grateful to those who casted a vote to help us allocate our donation.”
