4 Philadelphia Charities to Support this #GivingTuesday

Nov 27, 2017

On Nov. 28, celebrate #GivingTuesday by making a donation to a local charity that is near and dear to your heart. Here are four Philadelphia charities to consider supporting this year.

Support Philadelphia Charities – It’s As Simple As Checking Facebook

In the spirit of holiday giving, PFCU is once again turning to Facebook users to help us determine how we will spread $5,000 of holiday cheer among deserving local nonprofits. We work with these organizations throughout the year by providing financial seminars, and you too can help us give back to the Philadelphia community. Check out our Facebook post for details and to cast your vote for one of the following organizations.

In the meantime, learn more about the local nonprofit organizations you can consider supporting this year:

SpArc Philadelphia

SpArc Philadelphia offers support to individuals with disabilities by providing personalized programs and services that encourage inclusion, independence, achievement and growth. You can contribute to the organization to help families cover the costs of the special education process and services by making an individual donation, donating through a corporate sponsorship, participating in a company match program or establishing a planned gift.

Congreso de Latinos Unidos

More than 90 percent of families seeking help from Congreso de Latinos Unidos live below the poverty line. As a nonprofit organization, Congreso de Latinos Unidos strengthens Latino communities in the Philadelphia area through services inclusive of education and workforce, family and housing, and health promotion and wellness. Donate to the organization this #GivingTuesday to allow for continued innovative programming.

Gaudenzia provides addiction treatment and recovery to individuals affected by drug and alcohol dependency, mental illness and related conditions. Through the program, participants work toward achieving a better quality of life and become accountable individuals. Additionally, Gaudenzia’s House of Passage shelter provides beds to 175 women. Help individuals rebuild their lives by making a donation today, or consider donating socks and underwear to the shelter.

Lutheran Settlement House

Located in Fishtown, the Lutheran Settlement House is committed to empowering children, adults and families living in Philadelphia by helping them become self-sufficient through an integrated program of social, educational and advocacy services. Consider making a charitable donation this #GivingTuesday to support the continuation of the program.

No matter which of the Philadelphia charities you choose to support this #GivingTuesday, it’s truly fulfilling to donate to those in need. Beyond Thanksgiving and #GivingTuesday, you can continue to make donations to charitable causes throughout the holiday season. Consider choosing a local organization that each family member may be particularly interested in and make a donation on his or her behalf as a holiday present.
