Philadelphia Federal Credit Union Announces 4th Annual Art Competition Winners

Jun 5, 2015

The credit union partnered with local schools to host art contest that teaches 3rd-5th graders the importance of establishing and maintaining healthy financial habits

Philadelphia, PA, June 5, 2015 – Philadelphia Federal Credit Union (PFCU) today announced the winners of its 4th annual art competition, designed to teach 3rd-5th grade students how to establish and maintain healthy financial habits. This year’s winners of PFCU’s “Picture of Success Art Contest” were Eva Donnelly, a 4th grader at Saint Laurentius School and Rachel Mace, a 4th grader at Our Lady of Port Richmond School. Winners received a surprise visit from PFCU’s mascot, Moola Moola, who came to deliver a personal $100 PFCU savings account and a pizza party for their classrooms.

“In our fourth year hosting this art competition, we’re proud to see a growing number of children envisioning and planning their dreams,” said James McAneney, President/CEO of Philadelphia Federal Credit Union. “We created this initiative to help our community teach young people to think early on about their financial goals and instill in them the skills necessary to reach those goals.”

Students from over 25 schools in the Philadelphia area participated in the art competition this year, which coincided with National Financial Literacy Month in April. Hundreds of students submitted a work of art depicting one of their financial goals.

A special committee was tasked with selecting ten finalists which, in addition to Donnelly and Mace, included:

  • Natalia Bieszczad, 3rd Grade, Our Lady of Port Richmond
  • James Haines, 3rd Grade, Horatio B. Hackett School
  • Xinling Li, 4th Grade, Mayfair School
  • Thomas E. Smith III, 4th Grade, Gilbert Spruance School
  • Kelly Fitzpatrick, 5th Grade, Our Lady of Calvary School
  • Faina D. David, 4th Grade, Julia Ward Howe School
  • Diana Kahn, 4th Grade, Resurrection Regional School
  • Brianna Buckley, 5th Grade, Our Lady of Calvary School

Thousands of Philadelphians voted for their favorite entries on the credit union’s Facebook Page, which ultimately named Donnelly and Mace this year’s winners.
