July Community Roundup

Aug 4, 2022

COVID-19 has changed many things, but it hasn't changed our commitment to our community. This summer, we strengthened our commitment to several local organizations to support Philadelphians and our members by hosting a few sessions and supported a number of local organizations.

Highlights of our latest community activities:

  • Agaston Urban Nutrition Initiative (AUNI): As part of UPenn's Netter Center for Community Partnerships, AUNI offers summer learning opportunities for students across Philadelphia. For the sixth consecutive year, PFCU was involved in AUNI's WorkReady programs by helping young adults' complete professional development while earning money. PFCU's Erin Ellis was involved in two programs at Paul Robeson and William L. Sayre High Schools, collaborating with the youth to develop an engaging curriculum. Ellis covered various financial topics, such as banking, credit, budgeting, taxes, and more.
  • Personal Finance with Temple Men's Basketball: PFCU partnered with Temple Athletics to provide meaningful financial education to its student-athletes. On July 11th, Ellis hosted an interactive personal finance seminar with Temple University's Men's Basketball team. Students worked with Ellis to choose a lifestyle and create a financial plan for life after graduation.
  • Student Loans Webinar: Because the idea of paying for college can be overwhelming, Ellis hosted a webinar for members on July 12th focused around paying back federal student loans. Ellis shared helpful details surrounding Temporary Expanded Public Service Loan Forgiveness and more.
  • Homebuying 101: PFCU Mortgage Trainer Kelly Owens hosted a Q&A webinar on July 19th for members focused around the homebuying process. Ownes discussed several critical components of the process, including how much you need to save, an appropriate credit score, how much you'll need to borrow when applying, and more.
  • Episcopal Community Services: On July 26th Ellis held an in-person credit seminar that was open to the entire community.

For more than a year, we have hosted webinars and free virtual events to provide useful information for our community.
