Community Ties: Philadelphia Locals Collectively Determine New Neighborhood Mural in Fishtown
Results are in! An exciting two-week voting period closed last Friday, and members of the community came together to decide the design concept for the highly-anticipated new mural coming to the Fishtown/East Kensington section of Philadelphia. The artist team of Jeff Kilpatrick and Brad Carney has been selected to create the mural that will appear on an exterior wall of A C Auto Body, which is located at the corner of East Dauphin Street and Frankford Avenue.
From Oct. 2 to Oct. 16, PFCU held a public exhibition at its Fishtown branch. During this time, members of the Philadelphia community were invited to view the designs, meet the artists and vote for their favorite design concept. We also saw thousands of votes pour in through PFCU’s Facebook page, where passionate supporters of this initiative shared the final three designs in the running and encouraged participation between family and friends.
Over the next several months, Kilpatrick and Carney will begin the process of bringing their design concept to life. The finished mural is slated to be unveiled at the Philadelphia Federal Credit Union Kensington Kinetic Sculpture Derby & Arts Festival in May 2016. We hope to see all of you there!
And stay tuned for additional opportunities to participate in the mural-making process, including community paint days that will be announced early next year.
