Community Roundup: Paper Shredding Day + 2017 Philadelphia Federal Credit Union Kensington Kinetic Sculpture Derby & Arts Festival
At Philadelphia Federal Credit Union (PFCU), our neighborhoods are near and dear to our heart. Here’s a roundup of our latest community activities:
Saturday, April 22 and Saturday, April 29 were Paper Shredding Days at PFCU’s Operations Center at 12800 Townsend Road and our Bloomsburg branch in Columbia County. Hundreds of people brought their confidential documents, such as pre-approved credit card offers and cancelled checks, to safely shred their personal information. Shredding documents with sensitive information lowers the risk of identity theft. Keep an eye out for our next Paper Shredding Day this fall by checking our community events calendar here.

Saturday, May 20 was the 2017 Philadelphia Federal Credit Union Kensington Kinetic Sculpture Derby & Arts Festival. This year PFCU sponsored a group of 30 ninth-grade students from West Philadelphia’s Workshop School. The sponsorship included a $4,000 stipend to fund the cost of materials and assembly of two sculptures. The students spent the majority of their fourth quarter building the sculptures out of wood and metal. On Saturday, the students and teachers traveled to Fishtown with the sculptures in tow. Both structures survived the infamous mud pit and made it safely across the finish line!
At the end of the event, the Workshop School was awarded the prize for “Best Engineering” by the NKCDC. It was another dirty and successful Derby. We can’t wait for 2018!
