Community Roundup: Financial Literacy Month, Women In Business Conference + Shredding Day

May 3, 2018

At Philadelphia Federal Credit Union (PFCU), our neighborhoods are near and dear to our heart. Here’s a roundup of our latest community activities:

To celebrate Financial Literacy Month in April, PFCU launched the #StopMoneyShaming social media contest, a month-long campaign encouraging people throughout Philadelphia to share their personal money confessions for the chance to win a $250 PFCU Visa gift card.

To help spread the word, the team hosted pop-ups in the Howard Gittis Student Center on Temple University’s campus, handing out swag to participants on April 5th and 9th. PFCU’s Accredited Financial Counselor, Erin Ellis, also visited Lincoln Technical Institute students on April 3rd and 12th teaching best practices for setting personal money goals, creating a budget, and encouraging participants to enter the contest! Stay tuned as we announce the winner in early May.

PFCU was proud to sponsor the Greater Northeast Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce 2018 Women in Business Conference and Luncheon held on April 18th! The annual event brings together Philadelphia’s community of female business professionals for programming dedicated to empowering attendees and solving the unique challenges women face in business. Conference goers got the chance to hear Ellis provide tips for creating a healthier financial life. The presentation, “How to Improve Your Relationship with Money”, gave session attendees a deep dive into cultivating a healthier understanding of personal finances and financial well-being, and how doing so can improve all aspects of life.

In honor of Earth Day, we held our first Shredding Event of the year on Saturday, April 22nd at our Operations Center and our Bloomsburg branch hosted a shredding event on Saturday, April 28th. The events welcomed participants to shred their confidential documents – from pre-approved credit card offers to cancelled checks – free of charge, and safely recycle these materials, all onsite. These recurring events help to protect people from identity theft and credit card fraud, while helping save the planet at the same time.
