At Philadelphia Federal Credit Union (PFCU), our neighborhoods are near and dear to our heart. Here’s a roundup of our latest community activities:
May was an action packed month for the city, from spring festivals, to professional development sessions, to derby days and more!
PFCU’s Accredited Financial Counselor, Erin Ellis, spoke with local professionals of the Philadelphia Opportunities Industrialization Center’s (OIC) Bankswork$ for a seminar on May 2. The free vocational program helps area adults learn the hard and soft skills they need to start working in banking, preparing them for many of the financial industry’s most in demand positions.

Neighborhoods throughout Philadelphia celebrated the arrival of spring during Mt. Airy Day (May 5), Fitler Square’s Spring Fair (May 11-12) and the Spruce Hill Community Association May Fair (May 12) events! Our team members joined in on the festivities, distributing swag to attendees.
On May 13, PFCU swapped our orange for pink to participate in the Susan G. Komen Philadelphia Race for the Cure. We were proud to walk and run in the 5K event that helps fight against breast cancer by raising money to find a cure.
It’s never too early to start thinking about the future! Louis H. Farrell Elementary School hosted a College and Career Day on May 16. Erin Ellis had the chance to meet and speak to students from 5th to 8th grade about her college and career experience and the importance of saving money to work towards their goals and dreams.

Our team was proud to sponsor the 2018 Philadelphia Federal Credit Union Kensington Derby and Arts Festival again on May 19. This year, riders faced a new obstacle – The PFCU Orange Zone. Kids and adults used cheer kits including orange silly string, dodge balls, horns and more to distract riders on the course. A special thank you to our partners at the New Kensington Community Development Corporation, the East Kensington Neighbors Association, and the volunteers for making this event a huge success!
