August Community Roundup
COVID-19 has changed many things, but it hasn't changed our commitment to our community. This summer, we strengthened our commitment to several local organizations to support Philadelphians and our members by hosting a few sessions and supported a number of local organizations.
Highlights of our latest community activities:
- New Leash on Life: This nonprofit program is dedicated to saving the lives of at-risk dogs and improving the lives of justice-involved people. New Leash participants learn skills, get jobs and stay out of prison. PFCU's Erin Ellis is working with the nonprofit to incorporate financial education into its programming. PFCU also generously donated office and school supplies to the program.
- PFCU's Credit Webinar: Ellis hosted a webinar for PFCU members on August 23, detailing how people can improve their credit scores by paying down debt. During the webinar, she outlined different methods members can consider to pay down their debt most effectively.
- PFCU's Homebuying 101 Webinar: On August 24, Ellis hosted a webinar sharing helpful tips for members looking to buy a house. She dove into what to do from the beginning of the planning process, all the way to closing on a home to make it as seamless as possible.
- Public Service Loan Forgiveness: Ellis hosted a webinar attended by over 100 people to discuss Public Service Loan Forgiveness and the Limited PSLF Waiver. Under the PSLF Limited Waiver opportunity, most of the PSLF qualifying payment rules were suspended through October 31, 2022. Under this temporary waiver, those that take the necessary steps, may get credit for payments made on loans that would not normally qualify for PSLF. Ellis helped explain how to understand and navigate the limited time opportunity.
