Position Title: Mortgage Originator
Job Type: Full-Time
Classification: Non-Exempt
Salary:Starting at $24.86 per hour

As a member of this team, your primary responsibility is to serve and satisfy the credit union members. This includes whether your job involves dealing with members directly or providing service to someone who does.

This position requires the employee utilize their experience in originating and processing in making sound decisions to ensure PFCU’s safety and soundness. In addition, the employee will need to effectively promote member awareness and knowledge regarding first mortgage programs and create an environment that nurtures member retention and satisfaction.

Essential Functions & Basic Duties

  • Must meet department minimum standards.
  • Provide members with a superior level of customer service.
  • Take applications by phone, Encompass or off site.
  • Skillfully conduct home buying seminars at off site locations.
  • Visit SEG groups to conduct mortgage meetings and generate lead sources.
  • Determine a member’s needs and correctly match them to the appropriate product.
  • Provide assistance to members and solve all problems that may arise between application and settlement.
  • Possess a complete knowledge of all application, RESPA, and closing documents and the ability to explain each one to our members.
  • Present loans to First Mortgage Manager/Assistant Manager with reasons and recommendations for approval/denial.
  •  Concisely and accurately prepare loans for submission to processing and underwriting.
  • Consistently maintain expected level of production.
  • Strongly promote member awareness and knowledge regarding first mortgage products.
  • Keep abreast of current economic trends and conditions.
  • Cross-sell Credit Union products.
  • Facilitate member retention and satisfaction by answering questions before, during, and after the loan closing.
  • Obtain life of loan flood certificate.
  • Contributes to the team effort by performing other duties as assigned.
  • Ability to work evening and weekend hours as required with little or no prior notice.

  • Knowledge of the various regulations governing mortgage loans (Reg Z, Fair Credit Reporting Act, ECOA, RESPA, and Fair Housing Act).
  • Ability to analyze credit reports, Fannie Mae DU report, condo documents, budgets and by-laws
  • Ability to analyze tax returns, financial statements, appraisals, title reports, and insurance policies.
  • Ability to analyze debt ratios, MI, taxes, flood insurance, and escrows.
  • Ability to handle conflict and resolve problems.
  • Have a solid understanding of all criteria for home purchase, refinance, and debt consolidation loans.
