The weather is starting to warm up and soon kids will be home for spring break.

With that, families will look to get out of the house and enjoy some time together. While some may be looking at spring break options out of the city of brotherly love, there are plenty of fun options in Philadelphia that don't break the bank.

Catch a Game

Nothing says spring like the start of baseball season. The Philadelphia School District's spring recess runs from April 3 to April 6, which lines up perfectly with the Phillies first home series of the season. The Phillies home opener is April 6 against the Cincinnati Reds, followed by games on Saturday, April 8 and Sunday, April 9. If you want to see the defending National League Champions in action, there likely won't be a more affordable time than early in the season. While tickets for the home opener are predictably a little more expensive, you can find tickets to that weekend's games for as low as $23.

Explore the Museums

If you're looking to keep your kids' minds busy while on break, a trip to one of the region's many local museums are a great option. A number of popular choices offer free or discounted admission for kids. The Philadelphia Museum of Art and Rodin Museum both offer free admission for children under the age of 18, while the Science History Institute offers free year-round admission for everyone. The Penn Museum has free admission for children under the age of 6 every day, while teens 13 to 19 and college students have free or discounted admission at varying times and days throughout the week.

There are also some choices that are not free, but are not too expensive. The Please Touch Museum is a favorite of younger children, encouraging them to learn through play. Please Touch Museum tickets are $19 per person during the week, and $22 on the weekends. History buffs can also learn about the war that created our nation at the Museum of the American Revolution. They offer discounted tickets for children, free admission for kids 5 and under, and offer a family package online for two adult and two youth tickets for $55.

See a Show

If you have a college student home on spring break at the end of March, there are some great options to go see a show. The 6th Annual Philly Theatre Week takes place from March 23 through April 2. There will be more than 60 unique events with hundreds of shows taking place throughout the week. All tickets are pay-what-you-can, allowing audiences to choose their own prices. Each show listing includes information on how the ticket sales support their company and artists.

Get Out and Active

If you're just looking to get out and enjoy what will hopefully be beautiful weather, there is no shortage of options. You can go fishing at Marsh Creek State Park, kayaking at Core Creek Park, hiking or biking at the Schuylkill River Trail, play catch on one of the ball fields in Evansburg State Park, or try a little of everything at Fairmount Park. Each of these local parks has numerous options for fun activities. There are excellent park choices for anyone looking to get outside and moving where you won't need to spend a thing.

Instead of stressing by trying to plan an expensive vacation this spring break, check out any of these incredible options for family fun right in Philly. There are plenty of opportunities that your loved ones and bank account will be equally excited about.
