PFCU to Host Mural Design Exhibition and Voting Kickoff Event

Sep 25, 2015

If you haven’t heard the buzz around town, Philadelphia Federal Credit Union and the City of Philadelphia Mural Arts Program have teamed up to commission a mural on the corner of E. Dauphin Street and Frankford Avenue in the Fishtown/East Kensington section of Philadelphia. Dozens of artists submitted their creative ideas and, after careful consideration, the selection has been narrowed down to three design concepts. On the week of October 19th, a winner will be selected by public vote. That’s right – our community will collectively choose which artistic design will be brought to life in our very own neighborhood. Voting period begins Oct. 2nd and will end on Oct. 16th.

On Friday Oct. 2nd, coinciding with Frankford Ave Arts’ First Friday, PFCU will host a kickoff event at our Fishtown branch at 2136 E. Dauphin Street. The Opening Night of the mural design exhibition and voting period will give our community a chance to view the design concepts, meet the artists and enjoy complimentary refreshments. For the duration of the voting period, the public can visit the branch at any time during regular business hours to view the mural designs and vote for their favorite.

Hours of operation for PFCU’s Fishtown Branch:

Monday - Wednesday 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Thursday 8 a.m. - 6 p.m.
Friday 8 a.m. - 7 p.m.
Saturday 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Also starting on October 2nd, those who wish to cast their vote online may do so on PFCU’s Facebook page.

The three local artists or artist teams selected as finalists and contracted to create an original design concept for the mural include: (1) Jeff Kilpatrick and Brad Carney; (2) Marie Elcin; and (3) Emily White and Kien Nguyen. The artists were chosen among a diverse and highly competitive group of applicants who live or work in the East Kensington/Fishtown area and were selected by a group of judges comprised of representatives from PFCU, Mural Arts and New Kensington Community Development Corporation (NKCDC).

We’re excited to bring such a creative and collaborative project to our neighborhood. Please mark your calendars and stop by our Fishtown branch on Oct. 2nd to kick-off the voting period with us.  Event details can be found here.
