This past Sunday, PFCU spun in spirit around the city of Philadelphia as the two-time official sponsor of the Parx Casino Philly Cycling Classic. PFCU was happy to be among thousands of other local residents who came out to cheer on neighbors and friends from near and far who participated in the race.
On what was a picture-perfect day, professional cyclists took on the challenging course that starts and finishes atop the iconic Manayunk Wall in Roxborough. PFCU personally congratulates Evelyn Stevens and Kiel Reijnen, both of whom started the day as reigning champions in the women’s and men’s divisions, respectively, and ended the day as repeat champions of the two-year old cycling classic.
This year the race drew an even more competitive crowd thanks to a recent upgraded classification it received by the International Cycling Union (UCI). Both the men’s and women’s races are now classified a UCI 1.1, and the women’s race is on the USA Cycling NRC calendar. The upgraded classification is a testament to the dedication and hard work of the planning committee as they continue to build on the success of the inaugural race in 2013.
In addition to watching this spectator-friendly event – a Philadelphia tradition for nearly thirty years – PFCU employees were also on site to share information about the credit union and hand out free giveaways to spectators at the event.
PFCU was proud to support the race, which, just in its second year, has spawned a new tradition of world-class professional cycling in Philadelphia. For more information on the Philly Cycling Classic, visit www.phillycyclingclassic.org.
