PFCU to Host 2nd Annual Small Business Networking Event for Fishtown-area Business Owners

On Wednesday, April 30th, PFCU will host a Small Business Networking Event at O3 World in Fishtown.  The event, the second of its kind, is part of larger series of events that will be replicated at various locations within PFCU’s footprint throughout the year. The goal is to encourage small business owners to come together to network, socialize and hear from a representative of PFCU report on the economic business climate of a specific Philadelphia neighborhood – and what that means for small businesses.

For the upcoming event, PFCU has partnered with New Kensington Community Development Corporation (NKCDC) and Fishtown Area Business Association (FABA) to develop a survey distributed among small business owners in the Fishtown/Kensington neighborhood to gain a better understanding of the goals and economic needs of the small business owner and to address small business-oriented topics influencing/of interest to Fishtown and Kensington’s small business owners.

During the networking event, Mike Driscoll, VP of Business Development at PFCU, will give a presentation based on the results and responses collected from the survey.  Attendees will have the opportunity to discuss amongst each other their reactions to the findings and the meaning behind some of the trends in what people mentioned as issues and obstacles to starting a business. The event also offers small business owners a chance to network with one another while enjoying a relaxing evening of free food and drink.

This particular event is extra special in that it is occurring just two weeks after the first anniversary of PFCU’s Fishtown area branch, which opened on April 16, 2013 on Dauphin Street, and has since become very involved in the community.

More than half of Americans either own or work for a small business, and they create about two out of every three new jobs in the U.S. each year. They are the foundation of our region’s economy. Unfortunately, many business owners overlook credit unions as a reliable source for taking out a business loan and other small business services. With the Small Business Networking Event, PFCU hopes to increase awareness of its line of business services among the community’s business owners.
